The 2019 Jaguar XJ will soon on the market with its new form as an electric model. With a model that reinvents the idea of a luxury sedan as an electric car and can serve as a high-tech flagship for Jaguar.
Making an electric car on the XJ is a daring initiative, but the model has always been innovative for Jaguar, especially the last two iterations. Introduced in 2003, the Jaguar XJ X350 was the first aluminum Jaguar, and the X351, introduced in 2009 and still on the market, has completely broken with the design themes that have largely followed the XJ since its launch in 1968. According to Jaguar it is again inventing the model as EV is the best way to keep it relevant, because the sector experiences unprecedented levels of change in electrification.
The all-new XJ is being developed alongside a new Range Rover plus car model, known internally as the “Road Rover”. He will not use this name for production, but will be a Range Rover because of the big seal of approval of the brand.
Despite its close relationship with a model of the sister company of Jaguar, Land Rover, the XJ retains an elegant profile of the sedan, but with a passage of a layout with four doors to a five-door.
2019 Jaguar XJ Design
The design of 2019 Jaguar XJ has now been completed by design manager Ian Callum and his team. The design has been well received within the company, united in the belief that this XJ reinvented will be a real jewel for the company and announces a new design language for the brand.
Callum told Autocar in September that within the company there was a “consensus” that the XJ, a car that he considered very personal, should remain the flagship of Jaguar on a large SUV, as J-Pace claimed.
Without referring directly to the XJ, he added that the idea of the sedan had to be reinvented due to electrification, the emergence of the SUV and the unexpected acceptance of hatchback in the United States due to Tesla.
Jaguar launches its first electric car, the I-Pace, in March. This model has a major technology transfer with the XJ. I-Pace helps Jaguar position itself as a manufacturer of electric cars in the eyes of the world, and the company will be interested in maintaining that momentum.
For this purpose the arrival of the electric 2019 Jaguar XJ can not be better timed. When I-Pace reaches the showrooms next summer, it is the first premium electric car with a credible range that is sold without a Tesla badge and the XJ will soon produce a series of Jaguar electric cars. The XJ has always loved the UK without ever having had a serious challenge for the S-Class around the world, but the next generation will make great strides in China and the United States, especially in California. This is because Jaguar has a unique opportunity to reinvent both the brand and the technology by using its smaller size and technical design and technical basis to compete with its larger competitors.

The versatile architecture used for the XJ and its Land Rover brothers and sisters will be a new aluminum that will not only support electric cars, but also traditional piston engines to support more hybrid models. It is thought that the XJ does not start, or at all, the hybrid path to prevent the effects of its reinvention being diluted.
